Wall of Fame

Our CoE is very proud of our work, which is to provide high-quality science to advance the health of veterans and the nation and to ensure the patient-centered delivery of scientific discoveries. To emphasize the high impact work of our investigators, we display the first page of publications which meet criteria listed below on our Wall of Fame, located in a common area.
Criteria Include:
First-or senior-authored peer-reviewed publications:
- Published since 2000 in a journal with an impact factor of 10 or greater OR
- Published any year in any peer-reviewed journal and cited at least 125 times OR
- Impacted clinical guidelines, health policy, or Institute of Medicine Reports
In addition, the announcement and celebration of a publication meeting the above criteria is made at our quarterly all-staff meetings as well as our bi-monthly faculty meetings.
High-Impact Publications
Since the founding of the Houston VA Health Services Research and Development CoE, its investigators have published over 900 articles; 78 were in journals with an impact factor of 10 or higher, including 10 in the New England Journal of Medicine, 5 in JAMA, 12 in Annals of Internal Medicine, 42 in Gastroenterology, 8 in Circulation, and 1 in Lancet.
The table below displays the distribution of 33 high impact publications by CoE investigators since 2003. Criteria for inclusion are: 1) CoE first- or senior-authored peer-reviewed publications published in 2000 or later in a journal with an impact factor of 10 or greater; or 2) impacting clinical guidelines, health policy, or Institute of Medicine reports; or 3) being published any year in any peer-reviewed journal and cited at least 125 times. Less than 1.15% of all publications in the Science Citation Index ever achieve this number of citations. Similarly, CoE investigators have published many papers that are seminal contributions, as reflected in their very frequent citation rate.
